Studio
Studio is the authed, paid tier. The free generator at /generate works without an account, and always will. Studio adds the things that need a team behind them.
What's in Studio today
- Cloud-saved projects. Save a canvas to your team and pick it back up later, on any device. More on this below.
- Cabinet library. Curate the cabinets your team actually uses from the master catalog, and save your own. Shared across the team. More on this below.
- Your own team. Pick a name, get a seat count, invite teammates.
- Member roles. Owner, admin, editor, viewer. Owners and admins can invite and remove people. Editors edit projects. Viewers read.
- Team branding. Upload your team logos and pick how they appear on every map.
Custom themes are on the way. Studio teams get them as they land.
Cloud-saved projects
The free generator keeps your work in the browser for the current session and nothing more. Studio saves it properly, to your team, so it's there next time you sign in and on whatever device you happen to be on. Same generator, same editor. Your work just sticks around now.
Saving
The first save is deliberate. Build out a canvas, then hit Save to Studio in the toolbar and give it a name. After that it saves itself. The toolbar reads Saving while it catches up and Saved once it's done, so you don't have to think about it again. People sometimes do a quick one-off map and never save it, and that's fine too.
Finding your projects
Everything you've saved lives under Projects in the left panel. Open it from the toolbar or press Cmd/Ctrl + O. Pick one and it opens right there in the editor. No separate dashboard to leave for.
One editor at a time
A project is edited by one person at a time, so two people can't quietly overwrite each other. If a teammate already has it open, you get a read-only view with a note showing who's editing. When they finish, the view tells you it's free and you can take over in a click.
Cabinet library
The free generator lets you type in panel sizes by hand every time. Studio gives your team a shared library instead: a shortlist of the cabinets you actually work with, plus any custom ones you define yourself. Pick a cabinet from the dropdown on an object and its pixel and physical sizes fill in for you.
Curating from the catalog
Open Cabinets in the left panel. Search the master catalog by name or brand, filter by pixel pitch, and add the cabinets your team uses to your library. What you add shows up in the object dropdown for everyone on the team. Remove one and it drops out of the dropdown, but any saved project that already used it keeps rendering exactly as before.
Custom cabinets
If a cabinet isn't in the catalog, add it yourself. Give it a brand and name, its pixel size and physical size, and the cut direction, and it joins your library like any other. Custom cabinets are team-owned and shared with everyone on the team. Delete one and it leaves the dropdown, but projects that used it still render.
Missing a brand or a specific cabinet from the master catalog? Tell me and I'll add it. The catalog grows from what real teams ask for, and a genuinely useful cabinet you add yourself might get curated into the master catalog too, so every team benefits.
Your account
Account, team, and branding all live in the top bar of the generator, next to Projects and Cabinets. No separate dashboard to switch to. Each one opens in the left panel, right where you work.
- Account for your profile and password. Anyone signed in has it.
- Team for the roster, invites, and the seat overview. Owners and admins only.
- Branding for team logos and default placement. Owners and admins only.
Branding
Open Branding from the top bar of the generator (owners and admins). It has three parts.
Logo library
Upload up to 10 logos per team. PNG, JPEG, WebP, or SVG. Raster up to 2 MB, SVG up to 256 KB, max 4000 pixels on either side. SVGs are sanitized on upload, so external references and scripts are stripped. Owners and admins can upload and delete. Everyone on the team can see what's there.
Canvas chrome
Pick which logo from the library is your canvas default, and choose how it shows in the corner: None (HappyMaps mark only, the default for teams without a logo set), Yours (your team logo only, the HappyMaps mark is hidden), or Both (your logo above the HappyMaps mark, the default once you set a logo).
Each project can override the chrome mode for that one map without changing the team default. That control lives on the generator and lands in a follow-up release.
Object overlay defaults
Pick a second logo for stamping on individual screens (or use the same one twice). Set the default position on a 3x3 grid and pick a size: Small, Medium, or Large. The team default carries through to every map. Each project decides whether to use it.
If you want every screen on every map to carry the object logo automatically, turn on Stamp on every screen by default. Off by default, because brand assets shouldn't be loud unless you mean them to be.
The HappyMaps mark
The HappyMaps mark in the bottom-right corner is the small brand artwork on every free export. Studio teams can hide it on their own maps by switching the chrome mode to Yours. It stays unconditional on the free tier.
