Terms
Plain language, no traps. These terms cover the free tool and Studio. Questions? Email smile@happymaps.co.
Last updated 7 July 2026.
Who you're agreeing with
HappyMaps is built and operated by Squared Lemon (Netherlands), also trading as sticky.software and HappyMaps. When these terms say "we" or "us", that's who you mean. Reach us at smile@happymaps.co; we'll provide our registered address on request.
By using HappyMaps you accept these terms. If you don't, that's fine, but please don't use the tool.
The free tool
The pixel map generator is free to use, no account needed. Your canvas lives in a browser session (see the privacy page for exactly what that means). We intend to keep the free tier free. We can't promise it will never change, but we're not planning to put today's free features behind a paywall.
It's provided as-is. We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we can't guarantee it's always up, always correct, or fit for a specific job. You're responsible for checking a map before you send it to real hardware.
Your maps are yours
Whatever you build here belongs to you. We don't claim any ownership of your layouts, project names, exported images, or uploaded logos. We only process your content to run the tool: to render previews, generate downloads, and (in Studio) save your projects so you can open them again.
You're responsible for the content you put in. Don't upload anything you don't have the right to use, and don't use HappyMaps for anything illegal.
Sharing your work with us
We love seeing HappyMaps out in the real world. Sometimes we ask for it, sometimes you just send it over: a photo of your wall running a map, a theme you built, a line of feedback. Either way it's optional.
When you send us something to show off or to help improve the tool, however it reaches us, you give us permission to use it: to display, reproduce, and resize or crop it on our website, our docs, and our social channels, and to make the tool better. That permission is non-exclusive, worldwide, and royalty-free, and it costs you nothing. What you sent stays yours. We'll credit you where it makes sense, and if you'd later rather we stopped using something, email us and we'll take it down.
Two small asks in return: only send us material you actually have the right to share, and leave out anything a client asked you to keep confidential. A photo someone else took, or a screen under an NDA, isn't yours to hand over.
Tagging us on Instagram is a wave, not a permission slip. If we'd like to repost something you tagged, we'll ask you first.
Studio accounts and teams
- You're responsible for your login and for anything done under your account. Keep your credentials to yourself.
- A Studio purchase gives you one seat. Adding a teammate uses a seat. The moment a team has two or more seats, projects and the cabinet library become shared across the team.
- The team owner controls seats and members, and can remove members or transfer ownership. Team members can see and edit shared projects.
- You can delete your account at any time from your account settings. If you own a team with other members, ownership passes to a senior member first; if you're the only member, the team and its projects are removed. Payment records are kept for our accounting obligations.
Buying Studio
Studio is a one-time purchase, not a subscription. There's nothing recurring to cancel and nothing that renews. Payments are handled by Mollie (Netherlands); we never see your card details. The price and any applicable tax are shown at checkout before you pay.
Studio is not open to the public yet. Buying now locks in the early-bird price and reserves your place; you get full access the moment Studio launches, and we email you when that happens. Everything on the Studio roadmap at the time of your purchase is included, with no extra payment.
Refunds and cancellation
We keep this simple, and we'd rather you were happy than locked in.
- Before Studio launches: full refund any time, no questions. You've bought a place in line, and you can leave the line whenever you like.
- After your access goes live: full refund within 14 days of the day your Studio access opens, no questions.
- After that: it's a one-time payment, so there's nothing to cancel. If something's wrong, email us and we'll sort it out fairly.
To request a refund, email smile@happymaps.co. We refund to your original payment method through Mollie. The free tool stays free either way, so there's never anything to refund there.
If you're a consumer in the EU, you also have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance purchase within 14 days. The goodwill window above is at least as generous, and asking for it never costs you that right.
Fair use
A short list of the obvious. Please don't:
- Try to break, overload, scrape, or reverse-engineer the service, or get around its limits.
- Resell or rebrand HappyMaps as your own product.
- Use it to create or store anything illegal, or anything that infringes someone else's rights.
- Share a Studio seat as a way to avoid buying seats for a team.
If an account is clearly being abused, we may suspend or close it. We'll refund any unused purchase in good faith when we do.
Availability and changes
We may update, improve, or occasionally take features offline for maintenance. We aim for the tool to be there when you need it, but we don't offer an uptime guarantee. If we ever have to discontinue Studio entirely, we'll give reasonable notice and a fair refund for anything you can no longer use.
We may change these terms as the product grows. If a change is significant, we'll update the date below and, for Studio account holders, let you know.
The legal necessities
HappyMaps is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for issues caused by hardware, media servers, or third-party equipment you use a map with. Nothing here limits liability that can't legally be limited, including for death, personal injury, or fraud.
Our total liability to you for anything connected with HappyMaps is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. For the free tool, that amount is zero.
These terms are governed by the law of the Netherlands, and disputes go to the competent courts there. If you're a consumer, this doesn't take away the mandatory protections you're entitled to in your country of residence.
